BIO

The laboratory of Ueli Rutishauser, PhD investigates the neural bases of cognitive processes and the underlying computational principles using a combination of computational and experimental work, principally in humans. A key interest is the use of neurosurgical opportunities to perform extracellular recordings from single neurons in behaving humans. Together with behavioral measurements, computational modelling and theoretical analysis this approach has allowed us to make significant contributions to our understanding of human cognition. We are developing new computational tools to understand the role of neural dynamics and neural geometries in cognition and are performing theoretical work to decipher principles and circuit motifs by which neurons compute. Administratively, I am the director of the Center for Neural Science and Medicine at Cedars-Sinai.
